President's Message

As President of The Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce in Meriden, Connecticut, I would like to welcome all of you to the Chamber web site. Stop by and visit us often!

The Chamber Newsletter - July 2009

R On June 3, 2009, the State Legislature closed its regular session without passing a bi-annual budget.  Please know that we will continue to watch through the special sessions for any budget items that might affect our businesses.  We will keep you posted and perhaps call upon you to make a telephone call or two as the details roll in.

R Also on June

3, 2009, there was a major successful and completed event: The 22nd Annual Greater Meriden Chamber Golf Tournament, the Ray Parmentier Classic.  This event funds chamber activities to include the Sanford S. Shorr Education Awards which are announced at our Annual Meeting.  We would like to thank The Branding Company as our Title Sponsor and the 132 golfers (a new record number of players) who participated in the event.   The tournament winning foursome was sponsored by chamber member the Russell-Hall Co. with Bill Rosa, Dave Smith, Steve Forster and Rico Beaudoin delivering a low gross score of 58.  A special thanks goes to Dan DeRosa, tournament chairperson, and the staff of Violi’s Restaurant for making the day such a memorable one.

R After our June 10th Board of Directors meeting which was hosted at On Track Karting in Wallingford, we had our own local version of “The Chamber 500”.  Board of Directors Ty Bongiovanni, Greg Folta, Patrick Muli, Marc Nemeth and Richard Pendred suited up, attended the orientation class and took a spin around the track.  Mr. Muli took the checkered flag and we would all like to thank Marty Tyrrel for hospitality, refreshments and use of the very fine conference space at On Track Karting.

R Our July 1, 2009 First Annual Summertime Fun Raiser and Friend Raiser is shaping up nicely with Castle Bank & Trust, Health Net and CT Business Brokers as our sponsors to date.  If you are reading this and still wish to attend, please CALL TODAY.  We accept reservations up to the last minute and walk-ins are welcomed but we would like to give an accurate count to Tom’s Place who is providing the food and Valencia Discount Wines and Liquors who is providing the beverages.  Some members are utilizing this event as their staff summer party, others are rewarding their key performers with an afternoon out of the office and still others are just showing up for an afternoon of connecting with other members. One of the recent additions is a self-serve ice cream, sundae bar sponsored by Pralines Ice Cream Central Distribution, Inc.  All attendees will have a fantastic time at the YMCA Mountain Mist Outdoor Center.  More details are in the enclosed flyer.

R In addition to the 1st of July Outing, we have two Business After Hours scheduled in July.  On the 9th, we’ll be at Magnakleen Services and on the 23rd our host will be the Hampton Inn.  We know that we can’t allow business to slow down in the summertime so come on out and do some business at our Business After Hours.

R Chamber Facts: Participation Pays Off: Businesses join Chambers of Commerce for many reasons: insurance services, promotional opportunities, business advice, educational programs, exposure in the community and more.

But when members take it to the next level by coming out and actively participating, the value of Chamber membership will increase exponentially.  Whether it is showing up to a social event like a Business After Hours or an educational seminar like our Sun-Up Seminars, members meet other members and swap leads, learn best practices, share stories and even make appointments to conduct more business.

Many of these events are free or at a nominal charge.  Come on out and meet your fellow members and maximize the value of your membership.
